    The past decade witnessed a dramatic change in people’s living styles particularly in terms of way of entertainment due to an increase in mobile internet access. Statistics show that in 2004 the three major ways of entertainment were reading books (59%), watching TV (56%) and go shopping (52%). However, 10 years later, people have transformed their ways of entertainment into watching online movies (69%), e-shopping(57%) and reading through portable reading devices(62%). TV has definitely lost its original bulk of audience and more and more people prefer e-shopping to shopping in physical stores.

    What accounts for the huge transformation? In my opinion, at least three factors contribute to the changes. To begin with, the changes are closely related to the rising of related technology. The continued development in mobile internet access has greatly enhanced the number of active internet users. With the spreading of 4G/5G technology, there must be an even wider sphere of mobile internet activities for people to participate into. Besides that, the changes have a lot to do with the turning of the people’s attitudes towards and outlook on life. A greater deal of people nowadays have altered their view of what account for entertainment. With the post-90’s and post-00’s growing into the major entity of consumers, their reliance on mobile internet would matter a lot in terms of the major form of entertainment. Finally, the changes are enhanced and promoted by the government’s bettering policy in the development of internet industry. Each way of entertainment has produced huge revenue for those in the business and thus contribute to the new engine of Chinese economy.

    With the development of society, the increasing trend is bound to continue. As far as I am concerned, it’s a good sign and should be promoted since it brings benefits not only to people but to the development of country.
