——Virginia：英国最早殖民地，纪念1603年去世的伊丽莎白一世。

(二)汉译英

1、在对外关系中，我们一贯主张以邻为伴、与人为善，同各国发展友好合作关系。

——邻、人：neighbｏｒcountry。

——主张：in favｏｒof。

——Relations:表示友谊、敌意的关系。

Relationship:表示固有的，对双方关系的界定。

2、中国现在是、今后相当长时间内仍将是一个发展中国家。

——今后相当长时间：fｏｒlong time to come 或far into the future。

3、中国有13亿人口，这是最大的国情。

——“这是……”which is。

4、中国国内生产总值已居全球第六位，但人均水平却排在138位。

——居、排：rank，避免重复，“居”翻译为earn。
