NPV IRR
NPV (Net Present Value) and IRR (Internal Rate of Return) are two financial metrics used to evaluate the profitability of an investment project.
NPV is the difference between the present value of cash inflows and the present value of cash outflows. It takes into account the time value of money and discount rate to determine whether an investment will generate a positive or negative return. A positive NPV indicates that the investment is profitable, while a negative NPV indicates that the investment is not profitable.
IRR, on the other hand, is the discount rate that makes the present value of cash inflows equal to the present value of cash outflows. It is the rate at which the investment breaks even. If the IRR is greater than the required rate of return, then the investment is considered profitable.
Both NPV and IRR are important tools for evaluating investment opportunities. However, they have different strengths and weaknesses. NPV is more useful for comparing different investment opportunities, while IRR is more useful for evaluating the potential return on a single investment. Ultimately, both metrics should be used together to make informed investment decisions.
